We are excited to have two sculptures selected in this years Harbour Sculpture Exhibition! Both Youthful Essence and River Reeds have been selected as finalists. We are well underway in the preparation for this event with a site meeting conducted with the judges last weekend and the guys in the workshop finalising the sculptures for exhibition.
Harbour Sculpture is a unique exhibition of art, held on Sydney Harbour, spread across Clarkes Point Reserve, Woolwich. The exhibition will be open to the public from the 16th March to the 2nd April, so come down for a visit.
Youthful Essence is inspired by the idea that one’s soul will remain youthful even with age. This is shown through the rotating stainless steel sphere as the youthful soul, like that of our playful inner child blowing in the wind. The stainless steel material encapsulates the idea of youthful essence by maintaining it’s shine and reflection. This is contrasted against the weathered mild steel exterior frame rusting over time.
The River Reeds explores the juxtaposition of ridged industrial materials with soft, natural shapes to create a unique plant inspired sculpture. This series has a natural rust finish using the environmental elements to create it’s rich colour. The rich brown rust is reminiscent of the ochre shades of the desert and connects the sculptures with the Australian bush surroundings.
